At Stonewater Adolescent Recovery Center, we offer medically monitored detox services as a necessary first step for those adolescents who still have a strong physical dependence on drugs or alcohol. This clinically structured protocol was designed specifically for the needs of an adolescent dependent on drugs or alcohol, and it incorporates the physical considerations of a developing teen. Safely removing these toxic chemicals is the first critical step in developing a new foundation to build upon for successful recovery.

THE STONEWATER DETOX METHODS

Medically monitored withdrawal management protocol is fully supervised by a trained physician and qualified nursing staff specializing in substance use treatment. If an adolescent requires this level of care, Stonewater can provide it on-site without traveling to or from another facility. Stonewater therapists and medical staff maintain complete comprehensive therapy from the moment your teen begins detox throughout experiential therapy. Creating bonds with the medical team and staff allows teens to build connections early in the treatment process so that they feel comfortable and supported in the next steps of recovery.

TIME REQUIRED IN WITHDRAWAL CARE

The length of this service will depend on the progress of the individual, the results of clinical assessments, and the clinical impression of the overseeing physician. The goal is to make the resident physically able to participate safely in the next phase of the Stonewater program. Before all mental health assessments and the first counseling session at Stonewater, every resident must complete medical detox. Once these substances are out of your adolescent’s system, treatment sessions will be clearer. It will be more easily integrated and facilitated by your teen’s full attention and understanding.

Depending on the drug used and the level of alcohol consumed daily, your child may require medication to stabilize from withdrawal. Medications alleviate some of the painful and potentially dangerous side effects of withdrawal so that your child can safely remove all traces of toxin from his body. Not every substance will require medically-assisted detox, but it is important to know some do.

A few of these substances are:

  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • Alcohol
  • Benzodiazepine (Xanax, Valium, Klonopin)
  • Opioids (Oxy, Fentanyl, Vicodin, Percocet, Codeine, Morphine)

Each substance has a different set of withdrawal side effects, and Stonewater’s medical staff will help your teen through the process in a fully-supervised, caring and safe space. Medical detox reduces discomfort from physical and emotional withdrawal so your teen can adjust incrementally and safely. Some of these withdrawal symptoms are:

  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Chills and hot sweats
  • Seizures
  • Itching
  • Shakes
  • Irritability
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Disorientation
  • Paranoia
  • Cramping
  • Restlessness
  • Depression
