When it comes to substance use treatment, it’s vital to know that you’re not alone when you commit to rehabilitation and recovery. When your teen comes to our adolescent substance use treatment program, our treatment counselors and therapists provide support for him. However, we also recognize that a successful recovery journey must include a reliable support network. This network should include treatment and healthcare professionals, peers, friends, and, most importantly, family members. With the help of our on-campus family program, we can help you build that network for your teen. What is an On-Campus Family Program?
Substance use often leads to family members feeling angry or hurt. Maybe the person using the substance said or did things that were hurtful. Perhaps they even stole money or objects from their family members. If this is the case, a family treatment program can address these problems specifically.
An on-campus family program is a useful tool for rebuilding relationships and family situations that stress and conflict weakened during substance use. High-quality adolescent substance use treatment programs may recommend this program to help families work through problems that substance use causes. An on-campus family program, such as ours at Stonewater, can also help you and your family strengthen your relationships with one another.
What Makes Our On-Campus Family Program Unique?
Stonewater Adolescent Recovery Center uses two unique aspects of treatment during our on-campus family program. The first is our family therapy program. During family therapy, which occurs a couple of times a month, you’ll work with a therapist to express feelings and discuss coping mechanisms. Family therapy has a variety of useful factors, including:
- Expressing how each person has been hurt in the past
- Identifying communication barriers
- Identifying co-dependent relationships
- Creating coping mechanisms to ensure better communication in the future
In addition, our family program involves fun and engaging activities that may include parents, siblings, and grandparents. These events occur a couple of times a month and address the need for family systems, the science surrounding substance use and co-occurring disorders, and how generational history affects the family. Each month’s Family Day will utilize a different theme. Some themes may include:
- Karaoke or talent shows
- Chopped (cooking)
- Game nights
- Regatta
- Ho-ho-ho-down
- Olympics
There’s something for each individual at our on-campus family program. With this treatment method, you’ll find that your relationship with your teen is stronger than ever.
