Is CBD Safe for My Teen?

Is CBD Safe for My Teen?

A whole market of Cannabidiol (CBD) products have recently been unleashed into the public to make way for natural relief from health ailments especially in states that have legalized marijuana. In fact, by the year 2020 CBD sales are predicted to increase to over $1.9 million.  When you hear about CBD as a parent, you probably have some concerns on whether it will be harmful to your teenager because cannabidiol is one of the 113 identified cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.

When one thinks of a marijuana plant the most well-known cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which causes someone to get high off the psychoactive properties. CBD is a completely separate element that does not have the same mind-altering components that THC contains. Only .03% THC is contained in CBD oil which is not enough to get anyone high. The only way you could get stoned off CBD is if more THC, or something else that was psychotropic, were to be added to the oil which are completely different products being sold.

The popularity of CBD oil has grown due to the medicinal remedies that aid in relief for chronic pain, side effects stemming from cancer treatments, seizures disorders, autism, and for anxiety. CBD oil can be taken orally under the tongue, swallowed as a gel capsule, or used as a topical cream for the skin. Using CBD oil activates serotonin receptors that help the endocannabinoid system in the body to regulate mood and relieve stress that may be directly related to pain depending on the person and the condition.

When a parent is deciding whether CBD oil is ideal for their adolescent, they should consult their pediatrician to decide if it is the solution to what ailments that are occurring with their kid. One of the problems with CBD oil is that there is no regulation of the product. A parent would have to be informed on how to read the label, know the product, or find someone who is knowledgeable and trustworthy to assist them because they will be giving the product to a developing adolescent.

The real problem exists in making sure that CBD oil does not counteract another medication, making sure that the product is a safe option for what the condition needs, and getting a product that does not contain THC. With all these possible red flags, parents should ask questions about CBD oil and come to an educated conclusion to comprehend if it works in the best interest of the teen.
