Why is Time Management an Important Life Skill in Recovery?

As a teen, you may not recognize why time management is so important in recovery, but it definitely is. You may get to school on time because you understand the consequences if you do not. With other areas of your life, you may have a nonchalant attitude on just getting there when you get there or doing it when you feel like it because you want to chill. There may be times when you disregard, overbook, overlook, or prioritize your endeavors incorrectly that unintentionally will make your life much more difficult.

The truth is there are some paramount reasons that you should learn about how to implement time management into your schedule especially in regard to your recovery. Time management may seem like a drag to figure out, but the end result is more structure, more organization, more peace, and healthier choices. Using some of these guidelines for time management can be the very thing that can make your recovery steer clear of wasted time.

Schedule your day

If you were to fly by the seat of your pants every day, you would never know where you were going. To take time to develop a routine or put a schedule into place and stick to it, you can help to relieve some of the unsuredness of what you are doing. Planning out your weekly recovery meetings, when you will do your homework, and when you can hang out with your friends can make sure that you are getting everything done that is important and have fun too!

Prioritize your tasks

What you want to do may not be what you need to do. Getting honest and prioritizing your tasks in the proper order will do wonders in your life. Your recovery program is super crucial to put first and foremost because if you get high or drunk you will not accomplish anything productive. If you have questions on what needs the most precedence, consult with your therapist, your counselor, or your parents.

Understand your plans

Knowing what you are doing and why you are doing it will give you the motivation you need to keep moving forward with progress. You can accomplish more in a shorter period of time and keep yourself on track to be on time which ultimately will give more free time if you use a plan of action.

Time management will make a big difference in your stress level because you have a much better scope into what your day will look like. Do not be discouraged if things do not go exactly according to your plan. Going with the flow goes a long way with time management.
