Paying for Adolescent Treatment with TRICARE Insurance

More than ever, adolescents nationwide need our help. Stonewater is committed to making best-in-class mental health and substance use disorder treatment accessible for families nationwide. We accept a variety of insurances, including Cigna, TRICARE, United/UMR, and Aetna for adolescent substance use and mental health treatment.

Understanding TRICARE Insurance

TRICARE is part of the U.S. government’s commitment to care for our veterans. Established in 1997, it offers medical benefits for non-active duty service members and their families. TRICARE coverage is split into 12 different nationwide regions, with specific administrators responsible for each. (You may have coverage from TriWEST or TRICARE East, for example.)

Using TRICARE Insurance to Pay for Adolescent Treatment?

Thanks to the Mental Health Parity & Addiction Equity Act of 1996, all insurance providers must offer the same level of benefits for mental health and substance use disorder treatment as they do for medical and surgical concerns — and that goes for adolescents as well.

Every plan is different, so the best way to understand what yours can cover is to verify your benefits. By providing a few basic details, you’ll allow our team to get to work, communicating with your insurance provider to understand all the ins and outs of your coverage.

Adolescent Treatment at Stonewater with TRICARE

Understanding co-pays, deductibles, and exclusions can be confusing at the best of times — and even more so during a crisis. Our team is experienced in navigating the complexities of insurance benefits and will give you expert insight in clear, easy-to-understand terms.

Once we have a clear picture of your coverage, a member of our team will schedule a meeting with you to review the final breakdown of costs associated with treatment. If you are ready to move forward, we can begin the pre-admission process from there.

What’s more, even if your expected contribution comes in higher than expected, we will brainstorm with you to figure out alternative paths forward. Some families opt for financing, for example, to help lighten the load. Others may access 401Ks or other “rainy day” funds. If, in the end, treatment still does not feel like it’s within your means, we will give you information on other trusted programs that may be more within reach.

Is Adolescent Treatment at Stonewater In Network with TRICARE?

Insurance providers like TRICARE offer in-network rates to contracted partners who agree to deliver a certain standard of care for a certain cost. Stonewater is not in-network with TRICARE, but we are a preferred provider allowing you to use your benefits to help cover the cost of treatment. Verify your benefits to learn more about what to expect.

Help with Adolescent Treatment Financing

If your coverage from TRICARE insurance falls short of what you need, there are other options. Stonewater is proud to offer plans through Optimum Finance to help families finance adolescent treatment. Review your options and begin the application process HERE.

We can also help you brainstorm additional ways to cover the cost of adolescent mental health or substance use treatment. Your school district may pay a portion of a child’s treatment costs if your treatment provider has an accredited school on site like Stonewater does, for example. Or, you may be able to find support from your church or other community resources.

No matter the details of your situation, our team will walk you through your entire financial landscape, so that you have the information you need to make an informed decision.
